Eid Al Adha (عيد الأضحى), also known as the "Feast of Sacrifice," is the most important festival in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to God's command. Before the sacrifice could take place, God provided a ram to be sacrificed instead.
The festival is also called Al Eid Al Kabeer (The Grand Eid), Eid ul-Adha, Bakr-Eid, or Qurban Bayram. It falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and coincides with the completion of Hajj.
In Qatar, Eid Al Adha is a major public holiday lasting 4-5 days. Muslims begin with special Eid prayers at mosques, followed by the ritual animal sacrifice (Qurbani). The meat is divided into three parts: family, relatives/friends, and the poor.
Eid Al Adha 2026 in Qatar begins on Wednesday, 27 May 2026 (10 Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH), preceded by Arafat Day on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
